Life in the Middle

Today is the best...I am babysitting my little 2 yr. old grand daughter, Camryn, while her mom attends a Writing workshop for children's books. Well...Camryn won't take her nap, she's just too social...wants to talk to me about everything! So we rested for awhile, and now we're up and running again! This weekend I was able to babysit my other 2 yr. old grand daughter...what fun I had! She did take a nap, but not without watching a video on her portable DVD player first. But it worked! She went right to sleep. I feel so blessed to be a grandmother. There is just nothing like it. I've heard people say that before but didn't believe it until I became a grandmother. It's the best! I am doing the Hokey Pokey, coloring, having tea parties, making clay creatures and watching Tele Tubbies. Can't remember what I did when I was two, but I know it wasn't this much fun! God bless children! | | Posted by Susie at 3:29 PM -

We have postponed our garage sale for two weeks, but the items on my previous blos will still be on it. Then I will be able to add some of my mother's things also. We have decided to move her to our town and have rented an apartment for her in a 55+ living area so we will go out to her home way across the state and pack up her things next week. I'm positive that we will have even more items for the garage sale, so I'll be putting them on the blog too. Anyone want an old B-3 Hammond organ? Quite a heavy collectible!!!! | | Posted by Susie at 10:50 PM -

Last night we had the traditional 4th of July fireworks celebration with one little alteration...instead of watching our own kids light fireworks, we watched them help their kids!!!! Both grand-babies are too young, but there were cousins and friends and their kids who were carbon copies of our kids when they were the kids.
Did the grandpas give up their turn at lighting fireworks? NO WAY! They love it too, and the whole neighborhood was shooting stuff. Blow up the world!!! I was amazed this year at the size and cost of the BIG fireworks. WOW! One huge firework was at least 15 inches in diameter...but it did give us a good show.
July always means to me that summer vacation is about half over. So today I've gotten back to the schedule of cleaning the house. Took down all of the bedroom curtains and and screens for cleaning. I found lots of spider webs...yuck...and lots of dust. Where does it all come from...having the windows open at night, I guess. Anyway, one bedroom done, three more to go!
Hope you all had a good holiday and are getting back in the groove today with no problems!

Be sure and cancel your credit cards BEFORE you die. This is so priceless, and so easy to see happening, customer service being what it is today. A lady died this past January, and Citibank billed her for February and March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0.00, now is somewhere around $60.00. A family member placed a call to Citibank:
Family Member: "I am calling to tell you that she died in January." Bank: "The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply." Family Member: "Maybe, you should turn it over to collections." Bank: "Since it is two months past due, it already has been." Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?" Bank: "Either report her account to the frauds division or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!" Family Member: "Do you think God will be mad at her?" Bank: "Excuse me?" Family Member: "Did you just get what I was telling you - the part about her being dead?" Bank: "Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor." Supervisor gets on the phone: Family Member: "I'm calling to tell you, she died in January." Bank: "The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply." Family Member: "You mean you want to collect from her estate?" Bank: (Stammer) "Are you her lawyer?" Family Member: "No, I'm her great nephew." (Lawyer info given) Bank: "Could you fax us a certificate of death?" Family Member: "Sure." (fax number is given) After they get the fax: Bank: "Our system just isn't set-up for death. I don't know what more I can do to help." Family Member: "Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her. I don't think she will care." Bank: "Well, the late fees and charges do still apply." Family Member: "Would you like her new billing address?" Bank: "That might help." Family Member: "Odessa Memorial Cemetery, Highway 129, Plot Number 69." Bank: "Sir, that's a cemetery!" Family Member: "What do you do with dead people on your planet?"
