 Before I was a Mom

Happy Mother's Day!

Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind
and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held down a screaming child
so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond
between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so
small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom.

 bad hair

Well, I did it...got my hair chopped off. Thought I would use the paste and stuff to make it stick out on top and on the sides. I just can't make it work. Now I just have short hair and a huge face. I'm trying to live without a perm for awhile...still have to tease it to get it to stand up at the crown.

This is why I always call them "Ugly Parlors" instead of "Beauty Parlors." I always come out looking bad...I just don't understand why somebody can't do something with my hair to make it look better!

 Festival went well!

Rehearsing seventh graders for a concert can get to be quite a chore...they would much rather be giggling and yapping. But the ones who volunteered for this concert and spent a lot of extra time learning the music did a very good job. It was fun!

Now I'm getting ready for three end-of-the year concerts. My sixth graders are singing for a recognition ceremony which they are having for some soldiers in Iraq. They have been pen pals with them all year.

My seventh graders are doing their concert in two weeks which features a medley of surfin' songs...probably favorites of their grandmothers!

And then my eighth grade chorus and Sing and Swing choir are doing their concert at the end of May. Finally I'm doing a concert of nice music which does not include any must from High School Musical I or II.

It takes lots of planning and plotting to get the logistics of a concert put together, let alone getting the music learned. And I also have an eighth grade play in a month. They time is going by so fast!! The end of the school year is near!!! 35 more days to be exact. I can't wait!
